A Return to Chaco Culture National Historical Park

One of the most beautiful places in our entire world is Chaco Canyon in Northwest New Mexico. When my family goes to New Mexico, we always try to go there. It's a very sacred place to Pueblo people. The building complexes at Chaco Canyon are aligned to astronomical features, which is amazing! I love going to Chaco and spending time there.
This is me on the edge of Casa Rinconada, the largest known kiva in the Pueblo world. Kivas are sacred structures that are still used by Pueblo folks today! The windows at Casa Rinconada align with the sun on the equinoxes, which is an amazing astronomical feature. Can you imagine how special it would be to live in Chaco?
Another special place in Chaco Canyon is Pueblo Bonito, which means "pretty village" in Spanish. Since the land that is now called New Mexico was occupied by the Spanish, many names in the region are in the Spanish language. I love Pueblo Bonito! The last time I was at Chaco Canyon, my family hiked up onto the canyon wall above Pueblo Bonito and got a bird's eye view of the structures. It was really special! This time, we stayed on the canyon floor, but it was just as special.
I feel honored that my family has such a strong connection to Chaco Canyon. It is important to always remember our ancestors and the things they accomplished so that we could be who we are!
Is there anywhere special your family likes to go together?
